Rules and policies

Rules and policies are in place to make sure your child remains safe and well at school.

Visit the NSW Department of Education’s policy library for all current operational policies.

Our school uses the department's School Community Charter to ensure all of our communication is collaborative and respectful.

Attendance and absences

Students must attend school regularly so they can achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options.

In NSW, all children from the age of 6 are legally required to attend school or be registered for home schooling through the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). All students must complete Year 10, or its equivalent and remain in school, employment or training until they turn 17.

For more information about compulsory school attendance, visit:

Unless prevented by illness, students are required to attend school all day of every day the school is open. When illness prevents a student's attendance, parents are asked to advise the school, then on return to school, the student will need to bring reason for absence note (PDF 48.4KB) explaining the absence.

Parents are asked to arrange shopping excursions and make appointments with specialists, dentists, opticians, etc outside school hours as far as possible.

The Department of School Education has appointed Home-School Liaison Officers who regularly check rolls for attendance and will visit parents when there is a history of absence, whether it be explained or not.

Lateness

Students habitually arriving late for school will be asked to explain their lateness to the Principal or Deputy Principal.

When a student arrives late for school they should come to the school office with their parent to explain their reason for arriving late. They will be signed in electronically and receive a slip to give to their teacher.

Early leavers

When needing to collect a child from school during school hours, parents will be asked to present at the school office to receive a sign out slip. Their child will then be called down to the office. For security reasons, students will not be permitted to wait for parents during school hours anywhere other than at the school office.

Extended leave

If you intend to take your child out of school for any extended period please complete an Application for extended leave form (PDF 160.7KB) and send it to the school office, with a copy of your travel documents, before your planned trip.

School frameworks (school rules)

As well as following the department’s operational policies, we have developed frameworks for our students in line with our school’s values and commitments.

Values are taught in the classroom to help our students to:

  • develop a love of learning
  • pursue excellence and high standards
  • develop care and respect for themselves and others
  • take pride in their work
  • exhibit a strong sense of fairness and social justice
  • have respect for and understanding of Australia's history including the cultures and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first peoples of Australia, and Australia as a multicultural society
  • have an appreciation of Australia's history and multicultural society
  • actively participate as citizens.

Any behaviour that infringes on other people's safety such as harassment, bullying or any illegal behaviour will not be tolerated at our school.
