All students at CHPS participate in sport each week:
- Kindergarten - Wednesday morning at school
- Years 1 & 2 - Thursday morning at school
- Years 3 & 4 - Friday (mornings in terms 1&4 and afternoons terms 2&3)
- Years 5 & 6 - Friday (mornings in terms 1&4 and afternoons terms 2&3)
All students in Years 3 – 6 are provided the opportunity to trial for PSSA teams. Students who participate in PSSA will also be asked to pay a fee to cover their transport costs as PSSA takes place off-site.
School carnivals
Each year students at Castle Hill Public School participate in sports carnivals.
K-2 students participate in a tabloid sports day and a cross country carnival. Both of these events is held within the school grounds.
Years 3-6
These students participate in the following carnivals:
- Swimming carnival - Term 1 (offsite)
- Cross country carnival - Term 2 (offsite)
- Athletics carnival - Term 3 (offsite)
- Ball games carnival - Term 3 (onsite)
Students who win their races in Years 3-6 can progress to other carnivals to complete against students in their zone, area and state.
Primary Schools Sports Association
PSSA is an inter-school sports competition played between schools in the Castle Hill zone. Visit Castle Hill PSSA website.
PSSA is played on Friday mornings during Terms 1 & 4 (summer competition) and Friday afternoons during Terms 2 & 3 (winter competition). Games are played at various local sporting venues and at some participating schools. Teams are coached by Castle Hill Public School teachers. Students participate in training for teams each week, and may be asked to attend training before school.
Summer sports offered at Castle Hill Public School are cricket (junior and senior), basketball (girls and boys), touch football (junior and senior girls and boys), t-ball (junior boys and girls) and softball (senior boys and girls).
Winter sports offered at Castle Hill Public School are rugby league (junior and senior), AFL (junior and senior), netball (junior and senior), soccer (junior and senior) and newcombe ball (junior and senior).
Unless otherwise specified team membership is open to both boys and girls.
At Castle Hill Public School all students in Years 3 – 6 are provided the opportunity to trial for PSSA teams. Trials are held at the beginning of Term 1 (summer) and Term 2 (winter). Team selections are made by team coaches.
Students play PSSA in their school sports uniform. A shirt may be supplied for loan from the school for various teams but additional equipment such as mouthguards, shin-pads or boots (if required) must be supplied by competing students.
